Blazon: Azure a saltire gules between four fleurs-de-lis or

Ferne’s mouthpiece Paradius notes that all of the temporal peers bear some symbol of their ecclesiastical authority (a cross, a croizer, etc.) along with the French fleurs-de-lis. “[Charlemagne] deemed them worthy to bear the same colors, and charge of the royal ensigns of his realm, an honor due to none, but to his own blood.” (214)
